|Elgin, ILLINOIS—(January 6, 2012)— ITW Shakeproof’s ClearDrive Recess fastener has been named as a finalist for the 2012 Automotive News PACE awards.
“Innovations in this industry need to provide value to both the supplier and automaker. Our ClearDrive Recess solves an industry wide problem leading to its acceptance across our OEM and Tier customers,” said Seina Savoji, General Manager, ITW Shakeproof. “Shakeproof has a long history of innovations and we are honored to be one of the finalists for this year’s PACE award.”
The fastener industry and its end users have been faced with a persistant problem of clogged internal recesses since the advent of high corrosion organic coatings. The application method relies on a “dip-spin” process where pooling of material in internal recesses becomes inherent. Clogged recesses prevent installation, creating scrap, addtional costs and lingering quality issues.
The solution, developed by ITW Shakeproof, is the ClearDrive Recess. The simplicity of this idea was made possible through an innovative tooling approach, enabling ITW to create a solution improving a 40 year old global drive system while retaining 100% end user compatibility. This intuitive design add 3 “flutes” to a traditional 6-lobe recess, creating a channel for paint to escape during the dip-spin coating process.
Customers who utilize ClearDrive recesses experience improved drive performance and higher quality. They can achieve significant cost savings by converting to lower cost organic finishes while eliminating the cost of sorting, scrap and quality risks.
